Preparing Yourself for Denture Implants

in Preparation for Denture Implants

Preparing yourself for denture implants is very important, especially if you have set your mind on undertaking the simple and easy surgery.  Whether you have decided or not to purchase denture implants, there are some easy steps you can take to make sure you are ready for this wonderful life changing event.

The first step is to get your mouth ready for denture implants.  It will be significantly easier on your mouth if you get any remaining teeth removed before the surgery.  The reason for this is that they can remove all your remaining teeth when they get in there to do the implants, but if you have it all done at the same time you will be more sore than if you had your teeth removed before the implants are put in.  It also allows for your gums to heal before the surgery takes place which will help your implants set faster and get you wearing your new dentures in no time.

The next step in preparing yourself for implant supported dentures is financial preparation.  The procedure itself can cost up to $15,000 dollars so researching your insurance plans and contacting your insurance for coverage is very important.  Most insurance companies will help with a portion of the cost, so it will be up to you to take care of the rest.  Make sure you contact the office of the dentist or surgeon that will perform the denture implant surgery and see if they have finance options to help you make affordable implant payments.  If financing is available, getting a surgery like this is very affordable and quite frankly, life changing. The third thing to do is to make sure you either get the surgery done on a weekend or plan 3-5 days off of work to make sure you give yourself enough recovery time.  Right after the surgery the doctors typically don’t want you to put your new dentures in until 3 days after the surgery.  The reason for this is because your mouth will be very sore and putting the dentures in could be extremely painful if you don’t wait the allotted time.

The last thing to do in order to prepare for denture implant surgery is to get excited!  Think of all the things you will be able to do that you haven’t been able to do in the longest time because of your adhesive dentures.  Get prepared to eat fresh fruits, biting into something hard without your teeth sliding all over the place, and most of all get excited to taste food again!  Getting the denture implants procedure done will improve your quality of life and boost your confidence.  It’s definitely a win-win situation!
